Birth certificate in Mumbai

In India getting any work done through the government is nothing short of an ordeal. But things are improving these days. Computerization can be seen in many areas which makes the system efficient.
I would like to share the experience of getting a birth certificate of my li'l one. The hospital staff collected my name, husband's name, address etc from me just after the birth of the baby. They sent these details to the Greater Mumbai Municipality office in 'T' Ward Mulund which is in Paanch Rasta. While going from Thane to Mulund you need to take a right turn from the fire station on the main road (after R-Mall).
I had to check up with the municipality office after 2 months. I was asked to come back after 3 months are over.
>> The office remains closed on second and fourth Saturdays.
>> The office timings are 9 am to 1 pm. Nothing will happen after this time.
On my next visit I had to fill a "birth form" collected from counter no. 7 and then fees were paid in counter 1 - 3. After paying the fees, I had to submit the form duly signed at counter no. 7. I was asked to come on the next working day after collecting a receipt.
>> Important. Be very careful with the spelling of name, address and dates and ensure that the Pin Code is also filled correctly.
When I went the third time, I produced the receipt and got the certificate. There were some mistakes in my middle name as well as the pin code. Hence, I had to go to room no. 51 in the same building (second floor) and give a written application for the necessary correction and proof of the said correction. (Electricity bill as pin code proof). They kept the form and asked me to go and pay the fees again and come back next day to collect the form. (Same procedure as earlier). And you lose the initial fees that you had paid.
You can opt for 4-5 copies of the birth certificate if you want. You have to pay the necessary amount in the fee counter (1-3).
I hope this post proves to be helpful to some Mumbaikar parents.
Be very careful about the data that is filled by your maternity home before it is sent to the municipality office.
